Canine Semen Freezing and Storage

Genetic Testing

For pet owners in Thomasville, it is crucial to consider genetic testing before reproducing any pet. This helps ensure that any offspring will be healthy and free of inherited diseases. Genetic testing can identify any potential health issues ahead of time and help you make informed decisions about your pet’s future. You can also ask your vet about any genetic diseases that may be present in the parent animals.

Breeding Assistance

Traditionally, pet breeding has been done through natural means. However, it can be difficult to do correctly and requires assistance. We offer assisted hand breeding for owners that prefer natural breeding. This is done under direct supervision of the DVM to provide as much safety as possible.

Prenatal Pet Care Services

Caring for a pregnant pet can be a complex process. Our vets are experienced in providing prenatal care services and can help you understand the changes that will occur throughout your pet’s pregnancy. We can also offer guidance on nutrition, exercise, and general health needs during this time. Sometimes, your vet will recommend spaying or neutering the pet after birth.

Postnatal Pet Care Services

You will also need to consider professional care for your pet after it gives birth. Our vets can provide postnatal pet care services to ensure the baby is healthy and safe. This includes helping you determine whether or not to breed from the same parent animals again and providing advice on any problems that may arise.

Surgical Artificial Insemination

(AI) is the most effective reproductive method for many pets using frozen semen or fresh/chilled semen that has poor motility or concentration. Surgical AI requires general anesthesia and specific timing for surgery. Progesterone levels will be taken prior to surgery to plan for optimum chance of pregnancy.

Vaginal AI or Side by Side Breeding

At CMH, we offer vaginal AI or side by side breeding when there is difficulty with natural breeding. The is no required sedation. This process can help decrease diseases between pairs and will eliminate injuries associated with breeding naturally.
